Today has been a good but long day. Eja had a pretty rough night. Her blood pressure went way down then way up then they were able to get it controlled. They also gave her another blood transfusion. I am not sure if it was for bleeding that had occured or to prepare her for the surgery this morning. As Marsi stated in the blog this morning, the surgery went really well. She has been really stable as far as vital signs and blood work all day long. They are monitoring very closely her liver because it is damaged and that is where her pain medicines are metablolized. The plan is to give her a larger dose of meds then smaller to allow her body to "catch up" on the previous dose. She is able to be alerted or awakened if she is spoken to loudly or shaken so the "coma" is better understood as heavily sedated. This evening before we left the hospital, they let us know that her ventilators are down a lot from yesterday. Her doctor's are very confident with her progress. At this point, there are no further procedures or surgeries planned. There are many milestones that need to occur before her ventilator is done with and they stop the sedation. The doctors say the goal is to have her off the ventilator in 3-7 days. All-in-all, she is on the up-and-up and we all need to continue to be prayerful, hopeful and patient.
Thank you all for your love, care and vigilance.
